Finals week information
Final Exam Time and Place: Saturday, March 19, 3:30-5:30pm, in 3 Kleiber (the room where our class meets).
Review Session: Friday, March 18, 3:30-5:30pm, 66 Roessler.
Regular OHs: Monday, March 14, 1:10-2pm, and Friday, March 18, 2:20-3:20pm at my office (3210 Math).
Administrative OH: Tuesday, March 15, 1:10-2pm, at my office (3210 Math). Questions about the material will have low priority during this OH, but please come to talk to me if you have any other concerns. You need to tell me by 2pm on Mar. 15 if you need any special consideration! Do not assume that any arrangement you made for a midterm holds for the final exam.
Material covered on the final: Lines, functions (domain, range, composite functions), limits, continuity, derivative, rules for differentiation, higher order derivatives, implicit differentiation, related rates, increasing and decreasing functions, extrema, concavity, asymptotes (horizontal and vertical), curve sketching, optimization problems, business applications.
Section 3.8 (on differentials) will not be on the exam, and neither will acceleration problems such as Problem 4 on Midterm 2. Trigonometry will not be emphasized on the final.
For practice, solve the sample finals in Course Materials. Try to make your own problems by modifying examples from lecture and problems from sample exams.
Problems from Chapter 3 will form the bulk of the final exam. That chapter's Review Exercises (pgs. 252-255, page scans) offer some more practice problems, e.g., 1-8, 11-30, 33-44, 48-50, 63-76, 79-86. (You probably do not need to do all these - select a few at random and solve them if you need extra practice.) Solutions will not be available!
