Soshnikov Awarded Sloan
Alexander Soshnikov was awarded an Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship for
2002-04. These awards are intended to enhance the careers of the very best
young faculty members in specified fields of science. Currently a total of
112 fellowships are awarded annually in seven fields: chemistry,
computational and evolutionary molecular biology, computer science,
economics, mathematics, neuroscience, and physics.

Fannjiang Honored As Top Outstanding Mathematician
Albert Fannjiang was awarded an American Mathematical Society Centennial
Fellowship for 2002-03. This award of $55,000 is given annually to top
outstanding mathematicians to help further their careers in
research.

Nachtergaele and Tracy Speak at ICM
Bruno Nachtergaele and Craig Tracy were invited speakers at the
International Congress of Mathematicians held in Beijing in August, 2002.

Tracy Awarded Polya Prize
Craig Tracy was awarded the SIAM Polya Prize (jointly with his coworker
Harold Widom for their groundbreaking work on random matrices).

Schilling Awarded Fellowship to Research in Germany
Anne Schilling was awarded an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship, which will
enable her to carry out research in Germany.

Wets Recognized By Univ. of Vienna
Roger Wets was awarded a Doctor Honoris Causa -- the highest honorary title
that a University can award -- by the University of Vienna in January 2002,
for his scientific achievements.
