Outreach
The VIGRE project, in collaboration with the Department of Mathematics,
sponsors a number of outreach opportunities both on and off campus.
Explore Math is a loose collection of math activities for
high school, undergraduate and graduate students that take
place throughout the year, comprising of the Math Modeling Experience,
Math Circle, and ARML with associations to the COSMOS program.

The annual Math Fest is one of the Math Dept VIGRE supported outreach
efforts to the community, and in particular to high school students and
their parents, to inform and educate them about the power and excitement
of mathematics, careers in mathematics, and studying math at UC Davis.
Each year we attract roughly 400 attendees, more than half of whom are high
school students. We kick off this public event with a keynote speaker who
demonstrates the impact of mathematics on the world.
Following the talk, the audience pours into the courtyard to play
mathematical games and puzzles or learn about careers in math from
Math Department volunteers.
Math Fest is sponsored by the National Science Foundation VIGRE project,
the Department of Mathematics, and the California State Summer School
for Mathematics & Science (COSMOS) program, with occasional outside
support.

Other Outreach
Faculty and graduate students participate in many other varied outreach
opportunities, including informational and puzzle booths at the local Farmer's
Market, visits to high schools, as well as hands-on
math and science experiments to the Explorit Science Center.
