Explore Math
Explore Math is a loose collection of several programs which take place
throughout the school year.
The program has an average of 90 high school student participants, 15 undergraduate
teaching assistants, and 9 graduate student instructors per year. High school student
participants come from over 9 schools in the greater Sacramento area, driving as far as
70 miles every week to take part in the program.

The Math Modeling Experience (MME) is a hands-on introduction to dynamic research
topics and state-of-the-art methods in applied mathematics. Through coursework, workshops
and participation in a national team modeling contest, high school and college students
broaden their view of what math can do, practice important research skills, and gain leadership
experience.

Math Circle is a weekend program for high school students who love math and want more.
Every Saturday, we will do math for three hours, maybe four! Math Circle students work with
graduate student instructors and undergraduate assistants on mathematics. We explore topics
such as geometry, number theory, discrete math and chaos as well as prominent mathematical
visitors from across the nation!

American Regions Math League (ARML) is the World Series of mathematics
competitions. UC Davis ARML trains participants of the Northern California team
for the June regional competition. Once a week, students work with the graduate
student coaches on problem solving techniques and ARML problems from past years.
The program culminates with a trip to Las Vegas to participate in the competition.
