The UCDavis VIGRE project

The center piece of the Davis VIGRE project is the establishment of Research Focus Groups (RFGs). A RFG consists of faculty, postdocs, graduate students and undergraduates who collaborate in year-long research projects supported by a seminar series, mini-courses and discussion groups. An excerpt of the proposal describing RFGs and some illustrative examples can be found here in PS and PDF format.

The RFGs for 2007-2008 are the following. For more information, contact the lead faculty person indicated for each RFG:

• Geometry and Topology of 3-Manifolds and Geometric Group Theory, Lucas Sabalka
• Combinatorics in Algebra and Geometry, Alexander Woo
• Quantum Information, Operator Spaces, and Quantum Spin Systems, Bruno Nachtergaele
• Probability (for Fall/Winter Only), Janko Gravner

Additionally, the VIGRE Committee is proud to announce the following RFGs for 2008-2009:
