Undergraduate Math Contests
- William Lowell Putnam Mathematics Competition
This is the most prestigious college math competition and is open to
all undergraduates in the United States and Canada. Over 3000 students
take it each year with the top 25 individuals receiving monetary awards.
Registration typically occurs during the month of October of the Fall
Quarter and is handled with our Student Services office.

For Fall 2011, a special UC Davis Putnam Prep Seminar is being offered. They meet at 3:30pm in

UC Davis Putnam Prep Seminar
- Robert Lewis Wasser Memorial Mathematics Contest
Made possible from an endowment that was initiated by a contribution
from Robert Lewis Wasser's grandmother, Vera Mae Wasser, recipients
of this award are determined through a mathematics competition
coordinated by the department's Mathematics Contest Committee.
Held annually in the Spring, this competition is open to all
full-time freshmen and sophomores at UC Davis. Monetary prizes
are given to the first place winner with prizes also going to
honorable mentions.
How to Apply and Past Recipients
- G. Thomas Sallee Prize (formally The Spring Math Contest)
Formally known as the Spring Mathematics Contest, this award is
open to all undergraduate students enrolled at UC Davis. This
contest was started many years ago to help identify our better
students in mathematics. Winners are determined after having
completed an exam designed by the department's Mathematics Contest
Committee.

Undergraduate Math Scholarships
- Evelyn M. Silvia Scholarship for Future Mathematics Teachers
Established by generous donations from family and friends of
Professor Evelyn Silvia, this scholarship honors the late professor's
memory by recognizing and supporting students aspiring to be future
mathematics teachers. Applications are accepted in the month of
April of the Spring Quarter, and undergraduates of junior or
senior standing with a major in mathematics, applied mathematics
or statistics are eligible to apply.

- Eric C. Ruliffson Scholarship in Mathematics
Eric Ruliffson attended UC Davis from 1964-1968. He not only loved
the study of math, but he excelled in it. He was first and foremost
a problem solver, which helped him to achieve life-long personal
and professional success. In his memory, this scholarship was
established by family and friends as an effort to support financially
needy undergraduates of junior and senior standing majoring in
mathematics. Applications are typically received in the month
of April by the Office of Undergraduate Honors & Scholarships.
How to Apply and Past Recipients
All financial stipends paid through the UC Davis Financial Aid office.
This stipend may affect your overall financial need which will be
assessed at the time the stipend is processed.
