About Me

I graduated from Haverford College in Spring 2005 as a mathematics major. I spent a semester abroad in the "Budapest Semesters in Mathematics" program. Budapest is an amazing place. I am in my first second whatever year in the mathematics PhD program at UC-Davis.

My main mathematical interest is in topology, especially knot theory and algebraic topology (see my undergraduate thesis), though I enjoy messing around with group theory. Algebraic and differential topology in particular interest me, as I like seeing how algebraic structures give geometric insights (I find group actions and fibres particularly powerful here, each both for purely algebraic insight and for geometric insight).

I greatly enjoy teaching, tutoring, and giving talks. It's even better when I get paid for it. In putting together the tutoring page, I've discovered that I have quite a lot of experience tutoring---more than 1000 hours over 10 years!

Outside of math, my intellectual interests lie in mathematical physics, symbolic logic (Frege's Begriffsschrift), poetry, and ethics. I also enjoy reading (see the written works list) and meditation. I love soundtrack music, especially John Williams and James Newton Howard. Fractals are pretty. I'm just starting to sell my fractals (another online store is here--more expensive, but has more items at the moment).

My highest value is honesty. Thus, I almost never make promises: "He who promises runs in debt" (the Talmud).
