TEXT

Paperback: Precalculus--A Problems-Oriented Approach, Cohen.

You may use Cohen's Precalculus, 5th edition, if you prefer (hardcover). The hardcover has a few extra chapters that we won't use in our class. The fourth edition of Cohen's Precalculus (also a hardcover) has different problem sets, but is otherwise the same as far as our class is concerned. I do not recommend using the fourth edition, but you can make it work if you're really devoted to the idea. You would need access to someone else's 5th edition (or paperback) in order to do the assignments.

ATTENDANCE

Regular attendance is strongly encouraged. Note: whether you are present or not, you will be responsible for any information distributed in class.

GRADING

Your course grade will be determined according to this scale:
Homework 20%
Midterm 1 20%
Midterm 2 20%
Final Exam 40%

HOMEWORK

Please follow these guidelines when preparing homework papers for submission:

EXAMS

We will have two midterms and a comprehensive final (emphasizing later material) for this class. Bring a pencil, an eraser, photo ID, and your well-rested mind to the exams. Electronic devices, books, notes, and communication with your neighbors are not allowed.

OFFICE HOURS

My office hours are MWF 2:10-3:00, and by appointment. It's easy to make an appointment: just email me, and we'll find a mutually acceptible time.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

To gain a clear understanding of material as quickly as possible, read the book carefully. Most of all, PRACTICE. Do as many book problems as it takes, assigned or not. A very useful skill is to build similar problems for yourself.
