Required Text: Introductory
Algebra, 4th edition, by Robert Blitzer; Pearson, 2006
My Teaching Method: I
teach by using the Large Socratic Method, which teaches by asking
questions. Asking for different modes of response is important
and you will find me saying things like, "Show me on your fingers...",
"Raise your hand if you agree," or "Tell me what the..." Varying
the things I ask is meant to engage the largest number of students.
While it may remind you of schooling you had a long time ago, it is a
proven method of teaching, and you will hopefully find yourself wanting
to become involved.
Academic Dishonesty: Cheating
will not
be tolerated. Students found to be cheating in any way may receive a
score of zero on homeworks, quizzes, and/or exams. Depending on the
offense, a student may be dismissed from the class.
Cell phones: Although I
understand the occassional phone ringing in class, once it happens to
one student it should never happen again that day. This means that if a
phone rings, any student who thinks their phone may not be off or on
vibrate should make sure that it is.
Special needs: If any special
needs (related to health issues or disabilities) are required please
contact me to discuss a plan for meeting those needs.
