Homework

You don't have to submit your work, but it is important to do homework to prepare for the quizzes and the final exam. You are welcome to ask me questions during my office hours, but also note that you can go to the calculus room, where teaching assistants are available to you.

Some questions ask you to use the graphing utility but you don't have to. (Calculators are not allowed for the quizzes or the final exam anyway.)

Final exam (40%), Four quizzes (60%).

The lowest quiz will be dropped.

Exam

The four quizzes are scheduled for October 9, 23 and Novenber 6, 20. They are all on Fridays. The final examination is scheduled for Wednesday, December 9 at 8:00 am .

The questions are similar to those of homework or examples in the lecture. You are NOT allowed to use calculators, books or notes

MPR

All students enrolling in Math 16A are required to satisfy the Mathematics Placement Requirement (MPR). The MPR can be satisfied by meeting either one of the following guidelines:

- Passing the Precalculus Diagnostic Exam with an overall score of at least 30 AND a trig score of at least 2.

- Passing MAT 12 (or an equivalent elsewhere) with a C- or better.

- Scoring either a 4 or 5 on the Advanced Placement "AB" Exam.

- Scoring either a 3, 4, or 5 on the Advanced Placement "BC" Exam.

- Scoring 700 or better on the SAT Reasoning exam or either one of the SAT Math Subject exams (Level 1 or 2).

Please note that YOU WILL BE ADMINISTRATIVELY DROPPED from your class by the Math Department no matter what anyone else, including an adviser or instructor, may have told you if you have not met either one of the above requirements.
