Title: Mathematical
Analysis
Text: Applied
Analysis by Hunter and Natergaele
General Grading policy:
Established by Professor Babson
Homework Policy:
Established by Professor Babson
Homeworks will be evaluated on
the following criterion:
1. demonstrate the ability to
think critically and analyze step by step
show our work and justify why our
conclusions are sound
2. invest effort into clarity of
presentation
(this applies
to any field, and seems to be a good habit to cultivate)
present solutions in an easy to follow manner
problems numbered, equals signs line up, conclusions
(answers) easily visible
Course Expectations:
The goals of this course are two fold:
1. To become familiar with the concepts of
Mathematical Analysis (chapters 1-5).
2. To develop our ability to think critically,
anayze abstract concepts and apply these concepts to concrete problems.
3. To develop our ability to research and use
resources to the best of our ability.
In working towards the first goal, we will achieve the second.
Statement of Commitment:
I expect myself, as an instructor, to maintain a professional
environment.
I will work hard to maximize your chances of
mastering the material in this course (ie achieve a critical point with
negative second derivative).
I will update the course website in
a timely manner, keep an open line of comminication between myself and
members of our class and help you achieve best education I can
offer.
Expectation of the Student:
I expect that students in our class will dedicate their best
effort to this material (Show up to class ready to learn).
I expect that students maintain
integrity throughout this course and work with honesty and
diligence.
I expect that student of this course exhibit self respect and respect
for others through the language and attitude we use while in class
together.
I expect that students will laugh, enjoy and find reasons to be excited
while learning.
I expect that students give me feed back through the
forums provided so that we can make this class worth the
investment.
Course Values:
Over the next ten weeks, we will be working as a team to help
you learn the ideas, techniques and methods of Mathematical Analysis at
a graduate student level. My teaching and our classroom
environment will be based on the values of:
1. Courage
2. Commitment
3. Creativity
4. Excellence
5. Knowledge
6. Respect for self and others
7. Service to others
Students with Disabilities:
Any student with a documented disability (e.g. physical, learning,
psychiatric, vision, hearing, etc.) who needs to arrange reasonable
accommodations must contact the Student Disability Center (SDC).
Faculty are authorized to provide only the accommodations requested by
the SDC. If you have any questions, please contact the SDC at
