Prerequisites


You will be dropped from this course if you have not satisfied the Mathematics Placement Requirement (MPR) administered by the Learning Skills Center. The which can be satisfied in either of the following ways:
  • passing Math 12 with a grade of at least C (not C-)
  • passing Math 16A with a grade of at least C-
  • receiving a diagnostic score of at least 35 with at least 3 on the trigonometric component of the Precalculus Exam.

Grading


Course grade will be based on the following: Final 55%, Midterm 30%, Homework 15%.
The final grade will be determined by the following curve:
    A: 81-100%
    B: 66-80%
    C: 51-65%
    D: 41-50%
    F: 0-40%

Homework

There will be weekly homework assignments, announced on the website each Monday, and usually due the following Monday. For assignments and due dates check the homework page on the website. I will try to cover the material in the homework by the Wednesday before it is due.

You are encouraged to discuss the homework problems with other students. However, the homeworks that you hand in should reflect your own understanding of the material. You are NOT allowed to copy solutions from other students or other sources.

Homework is due at the beginning of class. Late homework will not be accepted. Homework is to be turned in as follows. It should be stapled, and your name should be on the top right corner of the page.


Exams


The Midterm will be on November 9th and cover Chapters 1 - 3.

The final exam will be on December 12, 1:30-3:30pm and cover all the material in the course.

No books, notes, or calculators will be allowed during exams. If you have unavoidable conflicts with those exam times, please talk to me as soon as possible. Make-up exams are given at my discretion, and only in the most unusual circumstances.


Student Disabilities


If you have a disability of some kind which requires accommodation, make sure you talk to the Student Disability Center as soon as possible. Please talk to me as well.


Sources of Help


First, there are my office hours. Then there is the Calculus Room in 271 Kerr Hall, which is staffed every weekday from 11am-6pm. There will be TAs there for Math 21ABC who will help you with your problems. Please get help as soon as you need it. If you wait until three days before the exam it will be too late. The Learning Skills Center is another source of help.
