Text: 1. Applied Analysis, by Hunter and Nachtergaele

        2. (recommended) Analysis, Chapter 1, by Elliott Lieb and Michael Loss

Description:
We will cover most of Chapters 7 - 9, and part of Chapters 12-13 in the text of Applied Analysis, plus some materials on basic measure and integration theory (Chapter 1 of Lieb and Loss's book). Department of mathematics has provided a syllabus in http://www.math.ucdavis.edu/courses/syllabi/grad2/mat201b.html

Homework: Each week homework will be assigned via Smartsite, to be handed in the following week (usually in Wednesdays). Homework must be handed in at the beginning of class on the day  it is due. Late homework will not be accepted for grading. If you cannot attend class, then slip the homework under my door at least 20 minutes before class time (on the day it is due). To accommodate any unforeseeable circumstances that may arise throughout the quarter, the lowest homework score will be dropped before computing the homework averages. Homework must be legibly written (i.e., unreadable papers will be returned ungraded), with your name clearly written on it. You are encouraged to discuss your homework assignments with other students in the class, however please make sure the final write-up is done on your own.

Final Grade: A grade total will be based on the following scheme: 30% in-depth problem assignments, 30% midterm, 40% final exam.

There will be a midterm (around Wednesday, Feburary 15 in class) and a final exam (Friday, March 23, 1:00 p.m.~ 3:00 p.m.).
There will be no make-up exams.
