The theme for this seminar will be 3-dimensional topology and hyperbolic geometry, with emphasis on open problems in low dimensional topology. Each week a student will present background and current knowledge on an open problem of their choice, from Kirby's problem list or from other sources. The talks will have lax time limits, and frequent interruptions for questions are encouraged.
Students are also encouraged to frequent talks at MSRI for the MSRI special semesters in Teichmuller theory and Kleinian groups and in geometric group theory as schedules allow. The RFG will provide some introductory background seminars for these when needed.
