The Bay Area Discrete Math Day, SPRING 2002

The Fourth Bay Area Discrete Math Day will take place at Stanford University on Saturday March 30, 2002 between 10:00 and 6:00. The location is Room 380-380C in the basement of Building 380 (the math department). There will be clearly marked signs on the day of the meeting. All parking lots near the math department are free on Saturdays.

Bay Area Discrete Math Days are one-day meetings aimed at facilitating communication between researchers and graduate students of discrete mathematics around the San Francisco Bay Area. These days happen semi-annually and strive to create a fairly informal atmosphere to talk about discrete mathematics. The term "discrete mathematics" is chosen to include at least the following topics: Algebraic and Enumerative Combinatorics, Discrete Geometry, Graph Theory, Coding and Design Theory, Combinatorial Aspects of Computational Algebra and Geometry, Combinatorial Optimization, Probabilistic Combinatorics, and Combinatorics in Mathematical Physics

A poster to advertise the meeting is available in postscript and pdf formats.

There will not be any registration fee, but ALL potential participants are kindly requested to send email with their probability of attendance. Directions to Stanford

• To get to Stanford by car, you can view the Stanford directions. These directions send you to the visitor information center. Alternatively, coming from 101 take University Avenue west. This will go under an underpass at the train station and put you on Palm Drive - continue until the end, and park at the Oval. The math department is then the rightmost of the buildings in front of you. Coming from the Dumbarton bridge, take the University Avenue exit (this is a left-hand exit) and proceed as above. Coming from 280, take the Sand Hill road exit toward Stanford. Turn right onto Junipero Serra, and then left onto Campus Drive West. Follow this round until it intersects with Palm Drive, then turn right and proceed as above.
• To get to Stanford by public transport, take the Caltrain to the Palo Alto Station, then follow the signs toward Stanford. This will put you on Palm Drive. Walk along Palm Drive for about twenty minutes to arrive at the math department. If you are coming from the East Bay, you will need to take BART to San Francisco, and then walk or take the bus (N MUNI inbound) to the Caltrain station. The Dumbarton express does not run on Saturdays.
