Saturday , Oct 21, 2006

Details are at http://math.berkeley.edu/~develin/badmath.html/

Meeting:  Lets all meet at the southeast corner of B and 2nd Streets on Saturday morning, Oct 21.
Those drivers coming from West Davis are welcomed to pick up others who live nearby them on
the way. Same for East.
Meet at 8:10am.    Drivers: print out the pages  Directions to MSRI,  noting that after 10am Centennial Drive is closed because of a football game. and this map.   for directions.   I suggest taking either
1) the 80 West (60 miles).  Take the ALBANY exit toward CLEVELAND AVE - go 0.2 mi;  left Left on CLEVELAND AVE - go 0.2 mi;  Turn left Left on SOLANO AVE. -go 2 miles.    Then go RIGHT Right on the Alameda (also known as MLK further down), and your first (?) LEFT Left on Marin.     Then you will hit a traffic circle with a big fountain in it.  If you car can handle steep hills, go around the circle and up Marin Ave (about a mile) all the way up to the top.  Go right Right on Grizzley Peak Blvd.  Go about 3 miles south (the first stop sign you pass will be Shasta.  the second Centennial).  Go right Right on Centennial Drive.  Take your first left Left on Gauss Way, which is the driveway that leads up to MSRI.   Park in one of the SSL spots.  Walk down the little driveway to MSRI.

(If your can cannot handle big steep hills, only take Marin as far as Spruce.  Go left on Spruce and take it up to Grizzley Peak.  Make a right and continue as above.)

or
  2)  the 80 West (30miles) to the 680 South (30ish miles), then 24 West.  Take 24 West and exit at Fish Ranch Road. At the end of the ramp, turn right Right(so as not to be redirected back onto 24 East). Follow Fish Ranch up the hill to the stop sign at Grizzly Peak. Turn right. RightAt the next stop sign (after 3 miles), turn left Leftonto Centennial Drive. Take your first left Lefton Gauss Way, which is the driveway that leads up to MSRI.   Park in one of the SSL spots.  Walk down the little driveway to MSRI.

9:15-10:00 Refreshments and Informal Discussion, First talk starts at 10am.  last talk ends at 5:00 and dinner at 6:30. All talks will be held in the main lecture hall at MSRI.
Dinner will be held at Kirin, 1767 Solano Avenue, Berkeley, CA.  Reversing directions 1 above will get you there, especially if you have good brakes for going down Marin.
