Lie Groups, Lie Algebras and their Representations University of California, Santa Cruz, April 24-25, 2004 The third 2003/2004 workshop in the program Lie Groups, Lie Algebras and Their Representations will take place on the Santa Cruz campus of the University of California on April 24 and 25, 2004. This workshop is cosponsored by the National Science Foundation and by the Department of Mathematics at UC Santa Cruz. There is no registration or participation fee for these workshops. These workshops meet at various University of California campuses (or occasionally at other universities in the western United States) for one weekend every few months during the academic year. The purpose of the program is to communicate results and ideas rather than to deliver polished presentations. The program also serves to acquaint graduate students in this area with a range of researchers in Lie theory and representation theory. Support for non-local graduate students is available, and graduate students are strongly encouraged to attend. If you are an interested graduate student, please send e-mail to the local organizers, Geoff Mason (gem@cats.ucsc.edu) and Chongying Dong (dong@cats.ucsc.edu), and ask your advisor to do the same. If you wish to suggest one or more of your graduate students, please e-mail a nomination, including the e-mail address for each of the students that you nominate. The talks will take place in Room 283, Kerr Hall, on the U. C. Santa Cruz campus. Note the change of location from earlier years. Here is the scientific program as of April 6, 2004. ======================================================================== Saturday, April 24, 2004 speaker and title 11:00 AM Wenhua Zhao: A vanishing conjecture for harmonic polynomials 02:00 PM Richard Ng: Frobenius-Schur Indicators and Quasi-Hopf Algebras 03:00 pM Sarah Witherspoon: Algebraic deformations arising from quantum group actions 04:15 PM Silvia Onofrei: On the 2-local geometry of Co_3 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sunday, April 25, 2004 10:00 AM Haisheng Li: Quasi modules for vertex algebras and a new construction of vertex algebras 11:15 AM Elena Poletaeva: On representations of superconformal algebras ======================================================================== Recommended Hotel : Ocean Pacific Lodge (831-457-1234), in the vicinity of the Santa Cruz wharf, beach and boardwalk. Attendees/speakers planning to stay overnight should call the hotel and reserve their rooms - they should mention that they are participating in an event with the Mathematics Department at UCSC. Once they have a confirmation number for their reservation, they need to contact the UCSC Math Dept (mallen@natsci.ucsc.edu) to let them know what the confirmation number is. The Dept will contact the hotel and confirm that attendee should be receiving the University rate ($65). ======================================================================== Corrections/additions/suggestions for the e-mail announcement list should be sent to jawolf@math.berkeley.edu .
