David Perry has been a cryptologic mathematician at the National Security Agency for 8 years, having received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1999 and teaching at Ripon College in Wisconsin for two years. He continues to teach a three-week course in Cryptology for the Johns Hopkins' Center for Talented Youth program every summer where he spends at least fifteen minutes trying to convince his teenaged students that he's not trying to recruit them, does not in fact have a chip in his head, and the black helicopters that seem to appear above the campus nearly daily is a coincidence.
