Unlike books, when you buy a CD, you are usually planning to reuse it many times, hence the increased irritation level at buying a ``lemon''. I hope this list doesn't lead anybody astray!

Charlie Haden and Pat Metheny, Polydor 1997
Mellow bass and acoustic guitar jazz duo.
Handel, BMG 1995
Keith Jarret on Piano does a really sweet job here.
Hootie and the Blowfish, Atlantic 1994
This was huge in the states a couple years back (Europeans just say, ``Hootie and the who-fish?''). It didn't get big for nothing, definitely good easy listening, this review's only here to lead to the follow-up album...
Hootie and the Blowfish, Atlantic 1996
Well we were all humming ``..let her cry'' to ourselves for a long time. Long enough to wonder where's that second album (alot of songs did sound oddly familiar in any case, one-shot wonders?). Anyhow, the first taste finally came on an early morning trip home from the beach and was greeted with a loud ``naaahhhh'' and a flick of the autoscan knob. Anyhow, the answer to the real question, how was that second album? Not that bad, but nothing to get you humming again.
The Jimi Hendrix Experience, MCA 1993
Man, can this guy play guitar!
Jimi Hendrix, Experience Hendrix, MCA 1994
Very laid back bluesy stuff. You can leave this one on if the phone rings! Nonetheless, the wizardry level is still high making this a really enjoyable album.
Kiss, Polygram 1996
When it hit primary/grade school in a big way all those years ago, I never liked all that make-up and long tongue stuff. However this album is a great example of some down to earth rock 'n' roll. Incidentally MTV definitely deserves some credit for getting all those guitar wankers to turn off the 3-phase once in a while!
Elvis Presley, RCA 1987
This is how it began, you can really hear the teenage truck driver striving and yearning to become something. The liner notes by Peter Guralnick are also worthwhile, but take the CD and his book, ``The Last Train to Memphis'' in partnership for the full monty.
Stevie Vaughan and Double Trouble, Epic 1992
Live and youthful, this one really rocks.
