The mathematics department is announcing a new research fellowship program for the summer of 2019.
A total of seven fellowships will be awarded to students who will conduct research for 1.5 summer months under the guidance of a mathematics faculty member. Starting dates may vary according to availability of mentor and mentee but preferred dates are from June 15th to July 31st. The fellowship consists of a summer stipend of $1,800.
All students conducting research with faculty members and KAPS in the Mathematics Department are eligible to apply. We strongly encourage potential faculty mentors to apply to the NSF for REU supplemental funding if eligible.
Interested applicants will submit an application package online consisting of:
- A cover letter explaining the interest of the student in the proposed projects, and his/her commitment to complete the research program and to present in a talk or poster format at the 2019 Fall undergraduate mathematics research conference.
- A one-page project proposal consisting of the following sections: background and motivation, preliminary results (if any), proposed research and references.
Priority will be given to applications received before Friday May 12th, although applications will be reviewed until positions are filled.
A very special thanks to Ernest Tam and May Chau for their generous support of this program.
