Hello! My name is Mikhail Gaerlan, and I am a second-year graduate student in the PhD program in Applied Mathematics at the University of California, Davis. I graduated summa cum laude from Mississippi State University in May 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Mathematics. I am also an alumnus of the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science.
My current research interests are broad and include various fields of applied mathematics such as big data, machine learning, statistics, and optimization.
I love programming and have used various languages including Fortran, Python, and Mathematica for different research projects such as dark matter research, computational fluid dynamics, and accelerator, particle, and nuclear physics.
