You are supposed to work on the exercise discussion sheets in groups of 4 people during the exercise session and hand in one (!) solution per group the following Thursday. The sheets will be graded according to 100%, 50%, 0%. The first exercise discussion sheet is not supposed to be handed in.
In order for your grade to be recorded correctly you have to go to the exercise session you are assigned to.


You should bring your laptop to the exercise sessions. In the exercise sessions we are using the programming language R to plot graphs and to visualize simple data:

Exams

There will be 3 exams:

1. Midterm exam: October 15, 9-9:50am Haring 2205, bring your student ID. Solution first midterm exam
2. Midterm exam: November 5
Solution second midterm exam
3. Final exam: December 13, 3:30-5:30pm, Haring 2205, bring your student ID.
Solutions

Final grade: The final grade constitutes of the performance in the homework assignments, the exercise sheets and the 3 exams according to:

Homework assignments: 10%
Exercise discussion sheets: 5 %
1. Midterm: 20%
2. Midterm: 25%
Final exam: 40%

Prerequisites: All students enrolling in Math 17A are required to satisfy the MPR. The MPR can only be satisfied by meeting the following guideline:
Passing the Math Placement Exam with an overall score of at least 30 AND a trig score of at least 2.
All students who have not met the MPR will be ADMINISTRATIVELY DROPPED from the class.
