Midterm 1

Midterm 1: Wednesday, October 23, in class. It covers sections 4.8 and 5.1-5.5 of the text, and first three homework assignments. Topics: antiderivatives, area and estimating with finite sums, sigma notation and limits of finite sums, the definite integral, fundamental theorem of calculus, substitution. For practice, solve one of the sample midterms on your own, then look at the solutions and solve it again.

Midterm 2

Midterm 2: Wednesday, November 20, in class. It covers sections 5.6, 6.1-6.3, and 6.5-6.6 of the text, and homeworks 4-6. Topics: substitution and area between curves, volumes using cross-sections, volume using cylindrical shells, arc lengths, work, densities. For practice, solve each old midterm, then look at the solutions and solve it again. Surface area will not be covered.
