Text and Course Outline:

Introduction to Linear Algebra, 5th Edition by Gilbert Strang; Wellesley Cambridge Press.

Linear Algebra is the foundation upon which science and engineering of the modern digital age is built. Knowledge of linear algebra is a basic prerequisite for the study of most areas of mathematics, statistics, electrical engineering, computer science, ... . The purpose of MAT 22A is to introduce students to the fundamental objects and concepts in Linear Algebra, including the study of vectors, matrices, and linear equations. A detailed syllabus can be found here.

Exam Dates:

In general there will be no makeup exams. If you have an official reason that prevents you from attending the midterm, you must contact me by email before the exam takes place.

Grading Policy:

Class participation:

Active participation during lectures can improve the grade in borderline cases.

Homework:

Homework will be assigned weekly. Doing the homework (while admittedly sometimes boring and tedious) is still the best and most efficient way to learn the material. As additional motivation to do the homework, there will be at least one homework problem on the midterm and on the final exam.

Homework Assignments can be found here (once the course starts ...)
