Calculus, Early Transcendentals, 13th edition
The complete text is available through the UC Davis Inclusive Access program, which you will need to sign up for to complete your homework. For information on how to sign up, see the ``Homework'' section below.
We will cover section 4.8, Chapters 5 and 6, sections 7.1, 7.2, most of Chapter 8, and 11.1-11.4, plus more if there is time.
There will be two midterms and a final exam, quizzes, and homework. I will compute two final grades for you as follows:
Grade 1. Midterms 25% each, homework 10%, quizzes 10%, final 30%
Grade 2. Best midterm 35%, homework 10%, quizzes 10%, final 45%
You will receive the highest of these two grades. There are no make-up exams or quizzes, and no late homework will be accepted. Your lowest homework score will be dropped, and your lowest quiz grade will be dropped.
Office hours are Monday 2-3:50. I can also make appointments outside of the scheduled time.

There are weekly homework assignments. Your lowest homework score will be dropped. You are welcome (encouraged!) to discuss your homework assignments with other students in the class, but be sure that whatever is submitted is your own work. Homework will be assigned and completed online.
Access to the online content for this course has been arranged at a reduced cost through the UC Davis Inclusive Access Program and will be billed to your MyBill account after the 10th day of class. Please visit http://inclusiveaccess.ucdavis.edu for your access code, billing details, opt out info, and current access status.
If you have questions, contact the Inclusive Access Help Desk at email@example.com. We will use the electronic version of the textbook, and the online homework system MyMathLab. The MyMathLab course ID, which you will need for MyMathLab registration, is "thompson76988". You do not need to buy the printed textbook (unless you really want a physical copy.) A full online version of the book comes with MyMathLab. You will get access to this online system through the UC Davis Inclusive Access system, which will contact you by email if you enroll in the course. Access is free for the first two weeks of class.
Note: Students who already have access from a previous course are covered for the entire series and will not be billed again. Just sign in with your existing credentials.
There will be six short quizzes, given in your section meetings (1/19, 1/26, 2/9, 2/16, 2/23, 3/9). Your lowest quiz score will be dropped. There are no makeup quizzes.
Dates: Midterms 2/3 and 3/3; final 3/24, 10:30-12:30 AM.
You need only bring a couple of pencils to the exams. You will not be allowed to use books, notes, calculators or scratch paper that you have brought in. We will be asking you to leave your backpacks and any other non-pencil items (including cell-phones) at the front of the room during exams.
