Addison-Wesley, Fourth Edition.
Syllabus: Approximately Chapters 1-8 of Rosen
Prime Factorization, Congruences and Applications.
Problem Sets: Posted here, due Fridays BEFORE the lecture.

You may collaborate on the homework. Identical solutions are tolerated if both papers
acknowledge one another (i.e. you must BOTH write: ``this solution was prepared in collaboration with....'').

NO LATE HOMEWORKS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Project: 10% of the grade will be assigned to a research project titled

THE RIEMANN ZETA FUNCTION AND NUMBER THEORY

The format and contents are entirely at your disgression.
Scour the library and internet for material but do properly cite any references used (plagiarism is bad!)
You may work in groups of up to four students and submit jointly.
Due Monday December 6th. NO LATE PROJECTS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

Exams: One midterm and a comprehensive final examination.
Midterm: MONDAY NOVEMBER 8th.
Midterm grading scheme 100=20(=5+5+5+5)+25+25+10+20+0
FINAL WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 15, 1:30-3:30, Olson 118
NO calculators, cell-phones, telescopes, satellite dishes or tarot cards in any exam.
NO MAKE-UP EXAMS.
Grading: %50 final exam, 15% midterm, 25% problem sets, 10% projects.
