As long as you are registered for MAT21C, section A1-A6, you can attend any sections 1 through 6 of this  class and come to office hours of any TA, including the Lead TA.  Note, however, that you will get back your graded exams during the discussion section you are assigned to.

Course Description:


  

Prerequisite: course 16C, 17C, 21B, or 21BH with C- or above; or 17B with grade of B or above.



 Sequences, series, tests for convergence, Taylor expansions. Vector algebra, vector calculus, scalar and vector fields. Partial derivatives, total differentials. Applications to maximum and minimum problems in two or more variables. Applications to physical systems.

Note that we will not use the Media Upgrade provided by the publisher of the book in our class.

Exams:

Bring your student Id for all the exams: Midterms and Final!


There will be a comprehensive final examination and two midterm exams. All exams are "closed notes, closed book, not laptops, no calculators". You are not allowed laptops, cell phones (or other means of electronic communication) during the exam. If I (or a TA) see you having such a tool of electronic communication during an exam, it will be grounds for 0 score for the exam.


Midterm 1: Monday, February 6, HARING 2205. No Make-ups!




Midterm 2: Monday, March 6, HARING 2205. No Make-ups!



Final  Exam:  Monday, March 20, 3:30—5:30 PM.  HARING 2205.

Grading:

Homework =20%, Midterm I =20%, Midterm II =20%, Final Exam =40%.

There will be no makeup midterm given. If you miss a midterm for a medical reason (or another valid reason, like a sports competition), the final exam will count for 60% (rather than 40%) and the midterm will not count. If you miss both midterms for medical reasons, the final exam will count for 80% and the midterms will not count. I will use curve for the final grade.


Cell phones: Turn them off before the class; offenders' cell phones will be confiscated for (at least) 24 hours.

Important dates:



The first day of classes: Monday, January 9.  The last day of classes is Friday, March 17.  There will be no classes on Monday, January 16 (MLK Day) and Monday, February 20 (President's Day). 




Homework:



Homework will be done using WebWork, which is a free online homework grading system. Homeworks will be assigned every Friday and will be due next Friday, by 23:59 PM PST. No late submission will be accepted. The first homework will be assigned on Friday, January 13.  Homework submission and grading will be done through WebWork:
