The 1995 Prize for the Outstanding Teacher of Lower Division Mathematics was
awarded
at the Annual Departmental Awards Ceremony on June 1, 1995 by Professor Craig Tracy,
Chair of the Department. The recipient was Dr. Noah (Sam) Brannen. In the
citation,
Professor Tracy noted that "Dr. Brannen has been a consistently outstanding teacher at
U.C. Davis since Fall 1991. This award reflects the Department of Mathematics'
affirmation of the gratitude that he has generated among the students fortunate enough to
have profited from his skill and dedication."
At the same Awards Ceremony, Dr. Peter Rock, Acting Dean of the Division of
Mathematical and Physical Sciences, presented, on behalf of the Western Association of
Schools and Colleges (WASC), an Award of Meritorious Service to
Professor Henry
L. Alder, who has "served consistently over the years on accreditation teams visiting
schools
for WASC, and has distinguished himself and the college by this dedicated and exemplary
service."
