Tate Birnie named Undergraduate Peer Advisor

The 1994-95 academic year was the first one in which the Department had an undergraduate peer advisor. The position was filled by Kristina Dance.

The peer advisor offers advice to any student seeking information on the mathematics curriculum and helps those who like to get a perspective from a student's point of view in addition to that of a faculty member. Kristina did such an outstanding job in that position that it was an easy decision for the Department to continue having an undergraduate peer advisor.

Many of you who graduated from our Department in recent years will remember how strongly you urged us to have an undergraduate peer advisor in the Department. Our experience has convinced us that you were right.

This year this position has been filled by Tate Birnie. Tate is currently a senior student graduating in spring 1996 with a B.S. in Mathematics and a minor in the United States History. After graduation she plans to continue her education in either mathematics or law.

As a peer advisor, Tate is trained to help students with questions about major/university requirements, GE requirements, departmental programs, internship and career information, course selection and RSVP, graduate school admission and requirements, transfer student concerns, and all campus resources.

The e-mail address of Tate is tabirnie@ucdavis.edu . (H.A., M.M.)
