Assigned on Friday May 21:
Read Sec. 5.11.
Do Exercises 5.11.1, 5.11.2, 5.11.3, 5.11.4, 5.11.6.
Assigned on Monday May 24:
Read Sec. 5.11.
Do Exercises 5.11.7, 5.11.9, 5.11.10. Correction: I removed 5.11.8 since
if you solve 5.11.8 with my suggestion, then it becomes the same as 5.11.9.
(My suggestion for 5.11.8 was to use the RREF to determine the bases for the four fundamental subspaces and then do Gram-Schmidt procedure rather than the way used in Example 5.11.2.)
Handout "Lecture 5" Exercise 1 (This problem refers to Example 3.1 and the matrix (3.7), which is the same matrix I used in the class when we discussed the 1-norm, 2-norm, infinity-norm of A=[1 2 ; 0 2];), and Exercise 3.
Assigned on Wednesday June 2:
No problem has been assigned because it takes a bit of time to do the other homework problems.
