Topical Outline (tentative): Basic principles of statistical mechanics. Classical and quantum lattice systems. Variational principles. Spontaneous symmetry breaking and phase transitions. Cluster expansions. Second quantization and Fock space. Bose and Fermi systems. Introduction to quantum field theory.
