K-theory, and its dual homology theory called K-homology, have definitions in terms of elliptic operators. Various dualities between them have concrete expressions in this setting. This has led to notions like twisted K-theory and to K-theoretic formulations of T-duality. This talk will try to present the basic ideas and to show how the applications are obtained.
