Graduate Programs in Mathematics

UC Davis offers advanced degree programs leading to the following:

  • Ph.D. in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics
  • M.A. in Mathematics
  • M.S. in Applied Mathematics

Admission to all programs is competitive and highly selective. Graduate students may pursue research in any area represented by our faculty, spanning both pure and applied mathematics.

Academic Offerings

Graduate coursework covers core areas such as algebra, analysis, differential equations, geometry, topology, numerical analysis, optimization, and probability theory. Additional seminars and special topics courses provide opportunities to engage with current research and emerging fields, allowing students to tailor their academic path to individual interests.

Department Community

The department is home to more than 40 faculty members, alongside a robust group of postdoctoral scholars and visiting faculty—typically 15–20 in residence each year. Over 100 graduate students participate in our programs, contributing to a vibrant academic environment enriched by diverse perspectives from around the globe.
