This is intended to be an informal introduction to what crystals are, an example of a combinatorial definition, a few kinds of open problems, and (very briefly) why anyone would care. The idea is to give those who have no clue what crystals are an inkling of what they are without getting bogged down with heavy representation theory or extensive definitions.
