This is the third and final talk in a series of talks on algebraic varieties. In this talk, we focus particularly on toric varieties. Toric varieties are a special and beautiful class of algebraic varieties whose attributes are almost completely governed by the combinatorics of polyhedra. We provide an introduction to this fascinating subject area, and detail some of the algebraic/polyhedral correspondences.
