Strong Nonnegativity, Sums of Squares, and Convex Hulls of Real Varieties

Inspired by scheme theory, we discuss a strong notion of nonnegativity on real varieties that gives deeper insight into the structure of a hierarchy of projected semidefinite relaxations to the convex hull of a given real variety. This is joint work with Brian Osserman.
