Quasisymmetric functions and a Littlewood-Richardson rule

I will give some background on quasisymmetric functions and define a basis for the space of all quasisymmetric functions. This basis exhibits a Littlewood-Richardson type rule under the action of multiplying by a Schur function. If time permits, an application of this rule will be given.
