DNA Topology: What it is and Why it is Important
Mathematical Biology| Speaker: | Craig Benham, UC Davis |

The topological state of genomic DNA plays controlling roles in many processes by which its activities are regulated in vivo. These include gene expression, replication, binding to ligands and complexes, and repair. In this talk I will describe the topological conditions a DNA can experience, which of these conditions are biologically most important, how they affect DNA structure, and how this can influence regulatory events. Although this field is 60 years old, it is still in its infancy. Many research opportunities remain, some of which I will point out as time allows.
