Algebra & Discrete Mathematics

Speaker: Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar, UC Davis
Location: 693 Kerr
Start time: Fri, Mar 12 2004, 12:10PM

Substitution errors, where individual characters are altered, and transposition errors. where two consecutive characters are interchanged, are commonly caused by human operators. In this talk, codes that can detect a single substitution error or a single transposition error are described. No background is needed to understand this talk beyond sixth grade math.
