Automating the Braid GroupsGeometry/Topology

How can one efficiently represent the elements of an infinite group and do group operations within it? For the braid group and many other groups, an automatic structure conveniently does these things. I will introduce this structure in the context of the braid group. This theory was developed earlier by Thurston and others.
