Given a pseudo-Anosov homeomorphism of a surface S, we can form a fibered 3 manifold as the mapping torus of the homeomorphism. Although the manifold admits a hyperbolic structure due to Thurston's double limit theorem, there is also a natural singular Sol structure on the manifold. I will discuss how the Sol structure is related to the pseudo-Anosov homeomorphism, and describe work on recovering hyperbolic cone structures from the Sol structure.
