Horizontal Surfaces in Seifert Manifolds

I will give an introduction to Seifert manifolds and will discuss their essential surfaces in the orientable case. An interesting class of surfaces consists of horizontal surfaces, the "cross sections" of the Seifert manifold. The obstruction to the existence of such a surface for a closed Seifert manifold will be presented.
