A new proof of the Witten-Kontsevich theorem via localization

Special Events

Speaker: Yon-Seo Kim, University of Chicago
Location: 3106 MSB
Start time: Tue, Dec 12 2006, 4:10PM

In the last few years several new ideas and insights were brought to the Witten-Kontsevich theory. The speaker will report one of them due to himself and Kefeng Liu (UCLA) that leads to a new proof of Kontsevich's theorem on the intersection numbers of the moduli spaces of Riemann surfaces. Their idea is based on the technique of localization in algebraic geometry and the cut-and-join formula in combinatorics.
