An Introduction to Khovanov Homology

Student-Run Geometry/Topology Seminar

Speaker: Ari Nieh, UC Berkeley
Location: 2112 MSB
Start time: Thu, Feb 1 2007, 1:10PM

Last millennium, Khovanov constructed a homology theory for knots and links that "categorifies" the Jones polynomial. We will give a highly visual overview of his construction. If time permits, we will discuss some current research in this area, including categorification of other quantum knot invariants.
