Combinatorics and Growth Models

Student-Run Research Seminar

Speaker: Prof. Craig Tracy, UC Davis
Location: 2112 MSB
Start time: Wed, Oct 10 2007, 12:10PM

Randomly growing surfaces have attracted the attention of physicists and mathematicians for many years. Kurt Johansson in 2000 showed that a very basic growth model could be solved exactly using the RSK correspondence from combinatorics together with some techniques from random matrix theory. These developments will be surveyed in this talk.
