Categorification in Topology

Student-Run Geometry/Topology Seminar

Speaker: Rohit Thomas, UC Davis
Location: 2112 MSB
Start time: Tue, Mar 30 2010, 12:10PM

Categorification is the process of promoting set-theoretic information to category-theoretic information. This talk will be an introduction to the what, why, and how of categorification in a topological context. We will focus on a classical example (simplicial homology) and a modern example (Khovanov homology).
