Spectral Properties of Large Random Matrices

Student-Run Research Seminar

Speaker: Alexander Soshnikov, UC Davis
Location: 2112 MSB
Start time: Wed, Apr 27 2011, 12:10PM

The talk is intended as an introduction to Random Matrix Theory. I will highlight the connections to Analysis, Integrable Systems, Number Theory, and Combinatorics. In particular, I will talk about the Mehta-Dyson universality conjecture in Random Matrices. At the end, I will touch on recent results (joint with Sean O'Rourke, Alessandro Pizzo, and David Renfrew) about fluctuation of matrix entries and distribution of outliers in the spectrum.
