Student-Run Research Seminar

Given a subset E of a Euclidean space, the Whitney extension theorem (1934) gives a necessary and sufficient condition for constructing a function such that the function has prescribed derivatives at the points of E. One of the main ideas in the construction is the Whitney decomposition. In this talk, we will review the decomposition and explain some of its modern ramifications.
