Integral Equation Method in Crack Problems

Student-Run Research Seminar

Speaker: Youn-Sha Chan, UC Davis
Location: 693 Kerr
Start time: Wed, May 9 2001, 1:10PM

A mode III shear loading will be used as an example to demonstrate how an integral equation (singular or hypersingular) arises in dealing with crack problems in fracture mechanics. Solution to the integral equation, both analytical and numerical, will be presented. A generalization to nonhomogeneous materials (for instance, functionally graded materials) will be discussed and some numerical results will be provided.
