What is... an elliptic curve?

These fascinating curves are related to a number of problems ranging from the most abstract (Fermat's last theorem) to your daily life math problem (factor an integer). The purpose of this talk is to explain, at the most elementary level, what makes them so interesting and what is their relation to cryptography.
